Kalman Levine: Born in Kansas City, transformed in L.A., murdered in Jerusalem

Rabbi Kalman Levine, born Cary Levine in Kansas City, Mo. on June 30, 1959, was murdered Tuesday morning in a terror attack at Kehillat Bnei Torah synagogue in the Har Nof neighborhood of Jerusalem. He was in the middle of the daily morning prayer service.  A man who in many ways came of age while living in Los Angeles as a young adult, Levine was killed by two young Palestinian men who also murdered three other worshippers and injured at least another 12 in the synagogue.  The assailants, Odai Abed Abu Jamal, 22, and Ghassan Muhammad Abu Jamal, 32, attacked their victims with a gun, knives and axes.  Both were killed in a subsequent shootout with police. Zidan Saif, an Israeli Druze policeman who engaged the two Palestinian attackers, was shot in the head and died of his wounds Tuesday evening in Jerusalem.
Levine leaves behind a wife, Chaya, who’s from Cleveland, and 10 children and five grandchildren. He was 55.  Shimon Kraft, Levine’s best friend from childhood, lives in Los Angeles and owns The Mitzvah Store. He shared memories of Levine just hours after he learned of the murder. He is also Levine’s former brother-in-law from Kraft’s previous marriage. He spoke about their lives growing up and how Levine, who was not raised Orthodox, was transformed when he spent six months at a kibbutz after high school and then moved to Los Angeles for college only to drop out after becoming engrossed in Torah study and inspired by an influential rabbi in North Hollywood.
Kraft described Levine as an exceedingly humble person, and while he was a serious learner devoted to increasing his knowledge of Judaism and Torah, he also had a sharp sense of humor and loved to joke around. Growing up in Kansas City, Kraft and Levine loved to watch the Kansas City Royals baseball team.  “We lived at Royals Stadium in the summer,” Kraft said. “We used to trade baseball cards.”
After Levine graduated from Kansas City’s Hyman Brand Hebrew Academy in the late ’70s, he lived on a kibbutz in Israel for six months and then returned to the United States to enroll at a pre-dental program at the University of Southern California (USC) in Los Angeles. Although he grew up in a Conservative Jewish family in Kansas City, Levine’s time in Israel led to a religious transformation that led him to become Sabbath and kosher observant.
Levine, after he came to Los Angeles, became very close with Rabbi Zvi Block, who established the first Los Angeles branch of Aish HaTorah—an international Orthodox educational group—in North Hollywood. Levine’s relationship with Block helped solidify the transformation that began in Israel, and Levine eventually decided to drop out of USC and pursue Torah study full-time.
In a telephone interview Tuesday, a discernibly heartbroken Block spoke warmly of his former student. “I became a father to all these children, to all these talmidim (students)—they are like my children,” Block said. “This is a huge loss for me. You’re talking about someone who was 18 or 19 when we first met.”  Levine was one of Block’s first five students at Aish HaTorah and the Los Angeles rabbi remembers Levine as one of the brightest young minds he ever encountered. “When you start off a program you are not sure if you are going to be successful. I feel I owe a lot of gratitude to the ones that helped me start, to the original students,” Block said.
The rabbi also said that he encouraged his small group of students to improve their knowledge of Judaism and Torah by moving their to learn in an environment immersed in yeshiva students. “My goal at the time was really to send people off to Israel,” Block said. “I thought that would be the best way for them to develop, to really pursue their Judaism to the fullest.”  While Kraft visited Levine in Los Angeles in 1977, the two decided to travel to Israel together to learn Torah. They attended two years of yeshiva before they returned to Los Angeles to attend a post-high school study program at Yeshiva University Los Angeles (YULA).
Kraft said that Levine decided to return to Israel again in the early 1980s—this time he never left. Over the years in Jerusalem, Levine built a family and continued pursuing the passion of his life—Torah. Kraft said Levine even organized a group of men who would get together for the sole purpose of self-improvement and strengthening character traits.
“He was truly great,” Kraft said. “He was so unusual, so special.” Block remembered Levine as being a great entertainer during weddings and goofing off during skits that he and others would put on for the festive Jewish holiday of Purim. “I remember him being extraordinarily talented at weddings and doing all sorts of shtick,” Block said.
On Monday night in Los Angeles, as Kraft was going to bed, he heard about the attack in Har Nof, but didn’t think more of it. On Tuesday morning though, Kraft’s son called from Baltimore and told him the news—his best friend had been murdered.  “He died in the beit midrash [synagogue], which is where he lived his whole life,” Kraft said. "It’s where he lived and died."
Block, while on the phone, found two books of Jewish law that Levine once gave to him as a symbol of gratitude. Block recalled that Levine wrote a note in one. Eventually finding the note, Block read it aloud as he tried to hold back tears:
“Dear Rabbi Block, here is a small token of appreciation for sending me to Eretz Yisrael. If it wasn't for you it is very possible I would never have had the opportunity to learn Torah. Thank you for changing my life, Kalman Levine.”

THIS IS NOT EUROPE...THIS IS JERUSALEM...THIS IS ISRAEL

Prime Minister Netanyahu addressed the nation earlier this evening, following the latest terrorist attack in which four Israelis were murdered and several more injured. He said this is "The Battle Of Jerusalem", launched by the forces of radical Islam, whose aim was to eject us from Jerusalem" "This will never happen, we will persevere, win and remain master of our capital city", he said.

He announced he had ordered security forces to demolishing the homes of the terrorists, and said that this would remain Israel's policy.  He accused PA Chairman Abu Mazen of duplicity, saying that while he condemns terror attacks, he is not lifting a finger to stop the daily incitement of radical Islamists daily hawking their ideological wares of blind nihilistic hatred and blood libels.
He criticized the international community for remaining silent and nor forcefully and unequivocally denouncing the terror attack perpetrated by two blood crazed killers who targeted Jews praying in synagogue. "This is not Europe", he said, "we will not tolerate or permit a situation in which synagogues require protection to exist in Jerusalem".

PRAY FOR THE PEACE OF JERUSALEM

C.U.F.I. | CHRISTIANS UNITED FOR ISRAEL

pray for the peace of jerusalem

Early this morning, four rabbis were murdered in Jerusalem as they gathered for morning prayers.  The attackers left behind bibles and prayer shawls soaked in Jewish blood.  The victims left behind 24 fatherless children. Our prayers are with the victims' families.  This was a premeditated act of terrorism.  The attackers -- two cousins from East Jerusalem -- entered the synagogue when they knew it would be filled with worshippers and began shooting and hacking while shouting" Allahu Akbar" -- Allah is great.   The Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine has claimed credit for these murders.  And Palestinians in Gaza have been dancing in the streets and handing out sweets to celebrate the bloodshed.

COMING TO YOUR NEIGHBORHOOD SOON

According to the terrorists' relatives, they killed the rabbis to protest what Israel is doing on the Temple Mount -- the place where the First and Second Temples stood and which is now the site of two important Muslim mosques.  But what exactly is Israel doing on the Temple Mount other than exercising surprising restraint?  Israel liberated this site -- the holiest site in Judaism -- in 1967.  Yet in deference to Muslim sensibilities Israel has allowed a Muslim Authority -- the Waqf -- to continue governing the Temple Mount.  And in further deference to Muslim demands every Israeli government including the current one has forbidden Jews from praying at the Temple Mount.  Non-Jews are merely allowed to visit in small groups.

COMING TO YOUR NEIGHBORHOOD SOON

These events should demonstrate an important fact about Israel's conflict with her neighbors: sometimes restraint is not rewarded.  And sometimes, the truth just doesn't matter.  Murderous grievance can flow from complete myth or pure hate.  The Christians being crucified, beheaded and murdered by similar Muslim extremists throughout the middle east have fallen to the same evil.

Let us pray for the families of these victims.  And let us pray for the peace of Jerusalem.  And let us insist upon telling the truth as the best way to protest these murderers and their lies.

VIGILANCE AND DETERRENCE
NO MATTER WHERE WE ARE

JEWISH DEFENSE LEAGUE: "EVERY JEW A .22"

Whether it is because the lack of man power or the governmental restrictions placed on the police and soldiers, the Israeli security force’s inability to protect civilians from harm is becoming more palpable by the day. It is disappointing – but it is also the reality. The only way that Jews, especially those living in Jerusalem and Judea and Samaria, can be safe is if they take the appropriate defensive measures. The savage murder of four Jewish worshippers in a Jerusalem synagogue was the latest in a string of brutal terror attacks that have swept through the country. Whether or not these attacks are the beginning of the Third Intifada, one thing is certain: Civilians need to be capable of defending themselves.
Brutal terror attacks and daily rock throwing illustrate our loss of deterrence. Arabs living in
Jerusalem and Judea and Samaria have learned something from their brethren in the Gaza Strip, and are now taking advantage of the government’s reluctance to deal a fatal blow to terror. The thousands of rockets shot by Hamas from the Gaza Strip have now evolved into violent acts of terror committed throughout the country.

The security forces cannot protect every single home and synagogue in Israel, and citizens must be ready to defend themselves and to deter the enemy if necessary. The “sport” of rock throwing would not be as attractive if the rocks were answered by a volley of return fire.
Unlike suicide bombers who have accepted their fate, many terrorists flee the scene after committing an attack with hope of escaping unscathed. Therefore, it must be very clear that any attempt on Jewish lives will result in their own lives. Deterrence is the only way to stop these terror attacks and avoid the Third Intifada, and unfortunately, that job seems to have fallen on the people.
Using violence as a means of self-defense is unfortunate, but it is the only language understood in the Middle East. Attempted diplomatic solutions in the face of terror is just as futile now as it was in the past, and no amount of negotiations will halt the inciting propaganda being publicized daily by PA-monitored media.  Our brothers and sisters living in Jerusalem and Judea and Samaria are on the front lines, and it is only their strength and determination that have the ability to stop the increasing violence.
“Every Jew a .22” – the simple yet powerful slogan championed by the Jewish Defense League in the 1970′s – is just as, if not more, important today.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu ordered the demolition of the homes of the two terrorists who carried out Tuesday's attack in Har Nof, the most significant operational step taken in the immediate aftermath of the murders.  The directive came at an emergency security consultation Netanyahu convened in his office with Defense Minister Moshe Ya'alon, Public Security Minister Yitzhak Aharonovitch, Israel Security Agency head Yoram Cohen, Jerusalem Mayor Nir Barkat and other top security officials.

In addition to ordering the demolition of the homes of the terrorists who carried out Tuesday's attack, he also gave orders to move forward with the demolition of the homes of terrorists who carried out recent attacks.  Netanyahu also ordered significantly ratcheting up law enforcement against those guilty of incitement.

Earlier on Tuesday, Aharonovitch ordered a probe to examine easing the
restrictions on firearms possession, in particular for Jerusalem residents,
in addition to a series of other security measures in the wake of the deadly terror attack on worshipers at a synagogue in the capital hours earlier.

The other measures include deploying four more companies of Border Patrol officers, reinforcing police patrols across the country with civil guard and police volunteers, setting up more checkpoints in Arab villages and ordering that Tuesday’s attackers be buried outside of Jerusalem. He also ordered an exam of the use of administrative detentions, the arrest without due process of terror suspects.

A spokesperson for Aharonovitch said the minister meant that they would examine easing the restrictions with an emphasis on security personnel and ex-IDF officers, but did not say it could not potentially apply to the wider public.

Currently, to receive a firearm permit you must be over 21, an Israeli resident for more than three years, have passed a mental and physical health exam, background checks by the Public Security Ministry and shooting exams and courses at a licensed gun range. The permit holder is then allowed to order a single firearm with a one-time supply of 50 bullets from a licensed dealer. They must then retake the licensing exam and undergo testing at a gun range every three years. There is also a stipulation requiring that any gun owner prove they have a safe at home to store the firearm.

TUESDAY 11/18/2014 | 25 HESHVAN | DAY OF SADNESS AND RAGE

If anyone has had any delusions about this not being a religious war, and anything but a religious war, one need only connect the images that are emerging from this morning’s massacre of four Jewish Rabbies in the middle of their morning prayer to the images of Jews massacred in Hebron, in 1929.

Two Arab terrorists killed four worshippers at a synagogue in the Haredi neighborhood of Har Nof in Jerusalem Tuesday morning.  Police officers shot and killed the murderers on the steps of the Kehilat Bnei Torah yeshiva-synagogue complex.  One of the policemen is in life-threatening condition from wounds in the shoot-out with the terrorists. The quick
response of the police, two of whom were traffic officers who happened to be in the area, is credited with having prevented a worse massacre.  Seven people are being treated for injuries. Besides the police officer in very critical condition, one other is in very serious or condition, the wounds of two others were described as “serious, while two others are in moderate condition and one was injured lightly.

The terrorists were cousins and from the eastern Jerusalem neighborhood of Jabel Mukaber, next to the predominantly Jewish area of Armon HaNatziv in Talpiot.  One eyewitness told police that a third terrorist escaped, but police later ruled out the possibility.  One of the terrorists was armed with a gun and the other with an axe and butcher knife, which was the size of that used in a slaughterhouse.
Chief Ashkenazi Rabbi Davis Lau called the attack a “pogrom.” “Two terrorists entered the synagogue and slaughtered worshippers wrapped in prayer shawls and tefillin. Several of the victims were mortally wounded,” rescue volunteer Aryeh Shavit told the 2525 website. The four Jews murdered in the Har Nof Massacre today held US and British citizenship, along with Israeli citizenship.
Rabbi Moshe Twersky (59): Israel-US national.
Rabbi Avraham Shmuel Goldberg (68): Israel-British national.
Rabbi Kalman Levine (55): Israel-US national.
Rabbi Aryeh Kopinsky (43): Israel-US national.
Eight more people were wounded in the attack, including 2 policemen.  One of them is Zidan Sayif (27) — Israeli Druze Policeman — was the first policeman on the scene at this morning’s terror attack, and he now is fighting for his life.  The critically wounded policeman, was shot in the head during a gun-battle with the terrorists at the shul this morning in Har Nof massacre in Jerusalem.  The terrorists turned their attention away from massacring additional Jewish worshipers to do gun battle with the heroic policeman.  Sayif’s parents and wife are at his bedside at Hadassah hospital praying for his recovery. Sayif has a 7 month old daughter as well.  We hope and pray for him too, that he has a speedy and full recovery and embrace his family during this difficult time.

Sad and sorry to announce that the critically wounded police officer in Tuesday morning's terror attack at a synagogue in Jerusalem's Har Nof neighborhood succumbed to his wounds at Hadassah University Medical Center in Ein Kerem. The death toll in the attack rose to five with the death of the police officer.
The officer was identified as Zidan Saif, 30, of the Druse village of Kfar Yanouch in the Galilee. He was the father of a four-month-old baby. He was set to be laid to rest on Wednesday.
Wounded United Hatzalah first response paramedic “Y.E.” recovering at the hospital. He was injured while treating the wounded under fire at the terror attack/massacre this morning in Jerusalem.  Also pictured (wearing a suit jacket) is MK Eli Yishai (Shas) who lives right near the location of the attack.  United Hatzalah and Magen David Adom emergency EMTs, paramedics and doctors responded to the terror attack this morning and arrived within 2 minutes of the initial call — and selflessly worked to save lives, under fire.
Rabbi Moshe Twersky, a native of Boston and a grandson of renowned rabbi Yosef Dov HaLevi Soloveitchik was among the four Jews whom Arab terrorists murdered while they were praying in a Har Nof synagogue Tuesday morning. He was 60 years old.  His funeral is being held at this hour at the Givat Shaul cemetery in Jerusalem.  Rabbi Twersky was a lecturer at Yeshiva Toras Moshe in Jerusalem and was the elder son of Rabbi Isadore Twersky of Boston.  He lived in the Har Nof neighborhood in Jerusalem his wife is the daughter of Rabbi Abba Berman, the late Rosh Yeshiva of Yeshivas Iyun HaTalmud.  His grandfather, Rav Soloveitchik, was known by generations of modern Orthodox Jews in the United States as “The Rav.”  Rabbi Moshe Twersky was escorted to his final resting place by 3,500 mourners today.  “G-d gave us a special soul…if there are 36 hidden righteous people in a generation, we merited to have one right here,” said one of his students.  Twersky was 59 years old,
and the head of a Kollel (rabbinical study program) in Yeshiva Toras Moshe in Jerusalem. The Yeshiva is primarily for American students who come to study in Israel for a year after high school, though Twersky taught older and advanced students. Twersky was the grandson of Rabbi Joseph Soleveitchik. His father, Rabbi Yitzchak (Isadore) Twersky, was both a rabbi and a professor in Harvard. He leaves behind a wife, Miriam, and five children.

Please pray for the following people who are still fighting for their lives:  Eitan ben Sara, Shmuel Yerucham ben Bila, Haim Yechiel ben Malka and Avraham Shmuel ben Shaina.

The four rabbis who were murdered in the brutal Palestinian terror attack on Kehillat Bnei Torah synagogue in Jerusalem’s Har Nof neighborhood on Tuesday morning, November 18, all lived on the same street.  Rabbi Avraham Shmuel Goldberg, 68, Rabbi Mosheh Twersky, 59, Rabbi Calman Levine, 55, and Rabbi Aryeh Kopinsky, 43, were all residents of the Har Nof neighborhood and had made aliyah to Israel in recent years. Rabbi Goldberg was a U.K. citizen while the other three rabbis held U.S. citizenship.  “When we count the widows and orphans that were added to the Israeli nation this morning, four widows and 24 orphans are on one street,” said Rabbi Yitzchak Mordechai Rubin, the rabbi of the Kehillat Bnei Torah synagogue at the funeral for three of the victims on Tuesday evening.  “We are here, standing in front of these three holy men, the best of our community, Torah scholars whose blood flowed like water.”
The four were among the some 25 worshippers praying the traditional morning Jewish
prayers at the Kehillat Bnei Torah synagogue when two Palestinian terrorists stormed in armed with meat cleavers, an ax, and a gun, shooting and stabbing worshippers. Cousins Uday and Ghassan Abu-Jamal from the Jerusalem district of Jabel Mukaber, carried out the attack and were members of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP). In addition to the four rabbis who were killed, eight others were also wounded in the attack.

The bloody attack was heavily condemned by leaders and officials from across the world. “On behalf of the United States government and the American people, I condemn this terrorist attack in the strongest possible terms. Murdering worshipers at prayer in a synagogue is an act of pure, unadulterated evil,” related U.S. Ambassador, Dan Shapiro.
“Beyond the terrorists who were killed by police responding to the attack, any others involved must be held responsible and brought to justice,” added Shapiro.  Meanwhile in Gaza, Palestinians celebrated the Jerusalem synagogue attack, throwing sweets and brandishing knives and axes in praise of the terrorists.  Even Bahrain’s Foreign Minister, Khalid Bin Ahmed Al-Khalifa issued a statement condemning the attack in Jerusalem. “The murder of Jews praying in a synagogue is a crime,” he said. “The injustice of the occupation does not give a right to cause harm to innocent worshipers.”  Later on Tuesday evening, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu ordered the demolition of the homes of the Abu-Jamal terrorists in East Jerusalem who carried out the attack in Har Nof today.

MAY THEY REST IN THE PEACE OF HASHEM

Let us pray for the families of these victims.  And let us pray for the peace of Jerusalem.  And let us insist upon telling the truth as the best way to protest these murderers and their lies.

It was a palpable sense of shock and revulsion that overtook the nation on Tuesday when the sanctity of a synagogue was violated and Jewish worshipers were struck down in a scene that summoned images of pogroms and Nazi atrocities - images that we thought were part of our past, not our present.  No amount of mea culpas about the "occupation" dehumanizing them or Israel's policies pushing them into a corner where they're forced to lash out can rationalize the depravity of  Palestinian society that not only enables acts like this but then praises them and justifies continued "resistance."

And now, as a result, their lives are going to get a lot harder.  Israel surely knows how to make peace, but it can just as effectively make war – whatever path it needs to take to protect its people.  If the people of Jabel Mukaber  - instead of gathering en masse in a rally of condemnation of the acts of their sons  - react as they did by engaging security forces with rocks and violence,  it's clear that the intifada era is not going to pass quietly.

Who will be the next young Palestinian driven by the incitement of their political and religious leaders to pick up an axe or a knife and betray their humanity?  That fear has spread throughout Israel - and while it's disconcerting for  us, it's worse news for the Palestinians we share the city with - Palestinians like the cleaning workers, fruit and vegetables pickers, waiters, etc.

They too are young Jerusalem Palestinians with similar backgrounds to the perpetrators of Tuesday's terror.  They are seen every day working in different jobs, exchange pleasantries, just like the worshipers in Har Nof likely did with the two terrorists who reportedly worked in the neighborhood.  It's a sad, unfortunate reality that results in shadowy suspicions like that, but from now on, no excuses will be made.  The quiet holiness of a Har Nof synagogue being shattered by unholy death made sure of that.

When the regular staffers enter your office in the afternoon to empty the trash bin and replace it with a new nylon bag, WE would find ourselves for the first time tensing up and watching their every move out of the corner of our eyes.  An alternative will be simple...do NOT give jobs to palestinians, do not rent them houses nor apartments, take away their citizenship; in other words, Israelis should life impossible for them.  Do not accept them in our schools, in our universities, in our clinics and hospitals, take away their drivers'licenses; in other words, make life impossible for them...so they get the hell out of our nation...THE JEWISH STATE OF ISRAEL.

EXPOSED: EU to Target Israeli Politicians and Sovereignty

EU leaks diplomatic blackmail and extortion it considers inflicting on Israeli politicians and democracy unless Israel submits to its demands   By:  | Nov 17th, 2014

The “secret” document which Haaretz has obtained from, and is promoting for, the European Union working group apparently tasked with denying the Jewish State its self-determination and its capacity for self-protection, has now been released in its full glory.  The idea that such a document could be woven together with – as is contended by Haaretz – the support of all the leadership of the EU’s 28 member states is nothing short of a global stink bomb.  If Haaretz is to be believed, the EU has devised a series of punishments for the Jewish state designed to strip the nation of its ability to operate as an independent, democratic nation.
Central among the EU’s strategies is their effort to deny Israeli voters the right to choose political leaders they approve of. Instead, the EU is proposing that they will chose Israel’s leaders, by “supporting” the ones they like and refusing to conduct international relations with those they don’t like – even if the hated ones happen to be Israel’s Foreign Minister, or its Ambassadors to various countries.  The fact that official pronouncements of Hamas and Fatah proclaim Jew-hatred with a full throat; that they explicitly call for the complete destruction of Israel (a member state of the United Nations, even now); and the murder of every Jew in the world – hardly rates notice.  Instead, Israel is now to be punished by Europe for refusing to negotiate with people who have made clear their goal of the destruction of the Jews.
Before getting to the additional implements of torture the EU will contemplate applying to Israel, new information comes courtesy of more anonymous “senior EU diplomats.” Those cowards want their scribe to make sure everyone knows that the list of punishments being drawn up was not done so only at the request of the few standard haters of Israel.  No, apparently nearly the entire EU is so furious with Israel for refusing to commit self-vivisection, they all want to teach Israel some lessons it won’t forget.
Several states, including some that are considered great friends of Israel, are the ones who conceived the move and are now hiding behind the EU’s foreign service so that it can act as the bad cop.
The EU diplomats claim the mandate was received from the “political echelon of all 28 member states. Further quotes from those whispering in the ears of Haaretz:
This is a sign that a great deal of anger and frustration exist in the member states. In recent months there were meetings of European foreign ministers in which ministers, who are considered extremely close to Israel, spoke in the most critical way against the policies of Netanyahu’s government.
And then comes the direct threat:
“The fact is that there is an agreement among all 28 member countries of the European Union to discuss measures against Israel, and that is what should worry the government in Jerusalem and the Israeli public,” they said. “This paper will be handed over to the political echelon in Europe, which will decide which actions, if at all, to take.”
DIPLOMATIC EMASCULATION OF ISRAELI LEADERSHIP IS IN THE CARDS.-In particular the EU member states, according to Haaretz, are prepared to take certain actions which are designed to castrate those Israeli politicians who continue responding to their own constituencies rather than the orders sent from Brussels.  For example, at least one of the sticks the EU will consider raising against Israel includes freezing out the leadership of Habayit Heyudi, such as Naftali Bennett and Uri Ariel, and even Israel’s President Ruby Rivlin, along with any “settler leaders” who do not support the (immediate) creation of a Palestinian state carved out of Israel.  This measure is referred to as the “no contact policy with settler organizations/Refuse to engage with settlers including public figures and those publicly rejecting the two-state solution.”
ECONOMIC PUNISHMENT OF ISRAELI BUSINESSES.- Another threatened method for destroying Israel being developed for their EU taskmasters by the small group directed to offer various implements of torture to be applied to the Jewish State, includes ones that will bring severe pain to Israeli businesses. This one includes “suggesting” to European countries not to carry out projects with Israeli companies which are located beyond Europe’s Green Apartheid Line.  One example given by Haaretz was that the Dutch Foreign Ministry recommended that Vitens, its own country’s water company, not carry out projects in collaboration with Israel’s water company, Mekoret, if those projects cross the Apartheid Line.  Perhaps the best example of this kind of threat is one that will result in an actual, not just metaphoric, effluvial outburst.  The Dutch government recently recommended that its Royal Haskoning infrastructure company reconsider working with the Jerusalem municipality on constructing a sewage purification plant in East Jerusalem. Perfect. In the place where there are most likely to be the most Arab workers hired by a European country, that country prefers not to dirty its hands by working with the Jewish State. The fallout should land directly on the Dutch for their noxious position.  Israel will take care of its own sewage, thank you very much. If only the Dutch and the rest of the threatening EU members would examine their own.  The small working group creating the menu of methods of torture from which the EU diplomats will select their favorites is “known in EU jargon” as the MaMa (Mashreq-Maghreb Working Party). A group comprised of Quasimoto’s ancestors, no doubt. In this edition of Haaretz’s leak of the “secret” EU document we learn that there may be some sticks – perhaps we should call them wet noodles – which might be applied to the Palestinian Arabs should they take some negative actions. What might that be?
POSSIBLE WRIST TICKLE FOR ARABS.-Haaretz prints, apparently with a straight face, that one sanction might be “the EU could continue to dissuade [the Palestinians] from moving ahead in the context of international organizations and use its leverage to that end.”  But that’s about all we learn of the nastiness which might be inflicted on the Arabs. Back to selections from the torture methods to be applied to Israel for failing to ensure that a “contiguous” Palestinian state carved out of the hide of Israel be advanced as quickly and completely as possible.
EUROPEAN FAVOR TO CERTAIN ISRAELI HENCHMEN/POLITICIANS.-Here’s a particularly undemocratic suggestion. Not only might EU member states refuse to have any contact with elected officials they disapprove of, including leaders of parties and the president of the country, but they may engage in their own form of choosing Israeli leaders from afar. They threaten to “openly support Israeli leaders taking hard decisions and help re-creating a positive dynamic, including in relations with the Palestinians.”  These set of recommendations, gleefully announced through the EU’s pet propaganda outlet in Israel, may constitute the single most outrageous list of political blackmail and extortion by a foreign entity towards a sovereign nation that has ever been put to paper.  Israel must respond as a dignified, sovereign nation. It must not cower before these outrageous threats. It is time to decide what courses of action are open to Israel to demonstrate its independence and refusal to bow before this new Pharaoh. It is time, finally, to refuse to bend.

Israel will protect its citizens from Arab violence

Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu warned Palestinian Authority Chairman Mahmoud Abbas on Sunday that Israel will protect its citizens from Arab violence.  Last week terrorists carried out 240 attacks against Israelis, killing two and wounding at least 23 others. Speaking at the start of the weekly government cabinet meeting, Netanyahu called on “Abu Mazen” – the terrorist name used by Abbas among Arabic speakers – to “stop this propaganda immediately.”
The prime minister was referring to Islamic extremist propaganda, and a call by official PA media last week for a “day of rage” in Jerusalem. Both came less than 24 hours after Netanyahu met with Jordan’s King Abdullah II and U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry in Amman. The three leaders had called for a “calming of the situation” in statements following the meeting.
“We will use all legal means at our disposal, including new legislation, to maintain the security of our citizens and residents,” Netanyahu said on Sunday. “Israel is also being challenged by lies being disseminate to the effecct that we intend to change the status quo on the Temple Mount – this is a gross lie,” he said. “We are being challenged by the unwillingness to recognize the right of the Jewish People to a state of its own.
“Israel is a Jewish and democratic state,” Netanyahu continued. “Democracy here finds expression in the right of every person to vote in secret elections. It finds expression in Basic Law: Human Dignity and Liberty, which promises full individual rights in a manner that is unprecedented anywhere in the very large region around us.
“The Jewish aspect of the state finds expression in its being the one and only national state
of the Jewish People, with a flag, national anthem and the right of the Jewish People to come here. The balance between these two facets in necessary, both to balance our judicial system, which certainly recognizes the democratic aspect, and now needs to also recognize the aspect of our being the national state of the Jewish People.”
Netanyahu went on to say that the government will move ahead with the nationality law designed to create this balance. “It will yet undergo many changes and discussions, but we will make it clear that the State of Israel is the national state of the Jewish People, while providing for equal rights – and ensuring equal rights – for all its citizens,” he said.

DETERRENCE

Deterrence has two prerequisites: (1) overwhelming military power, and (2) the will to use it ruthlessly.  Israel has the power, but the leaders of Israel’s government lack the will. By the “government” we mean the political and military echelons.
Apart from obtaining crucial information, Israel’s security forces should eliminate any apprehended Arab terrorist. Even former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney, when asked what should be done to terrorists, replied: “Kill them!”  Deterrence will also be improved on the streets of Jerusalem and Tel Aviv when the IDF mission in Gaza is to completely eliminate any vestige of terrorist groups, such as Hamas. The policy of “self-restraint” should be limited to children.
Arab rock-throwers should be charged with the crime of attempted murder. By being lenient with minor offenses, the government only encourages major offenses. It was by applying this commonsense teaching that former New York Mayor Rudolph W. Giuliani drastically curtailed crime in that multi-ethnic city. Arabs need to know that they will no longer be mollycoddled, indeed, that the standards of civilized behavior will be applied to them as to any other citizen of Israel. To do otherwise is tantamount to racism!
Therefore, any Arab citizen of Israel who aids or abets Arab terror attacks should be
stripped of his citizenship and of all benefits accruing to Israeli citizens.  Arab students in Israeli colleges and universities who engage in demonstrations in support of any terrorist organization, or who call for Israel’s destruction, will forfeit his student status and emoluments and be subject to criminal prosecution.
It should be known to Arab citizens of Israel that any Arab that perpetrates or aids a terrorist attack against any citizen of Israel, whether the latter is Jewish or non-Jewish, will forfeit his or her home. And if that home was used as a haven for any terrorist, it will be destroyed.  Further, if the Palestinian Authority encourages Arabs to commit acts of terror against the State of Israel or any of its Jewish or non-Jewish citizens, it will forfeit any and all tax and other privileges it enjoys under Israel law.
