Arsonists set fire to a
Brussels synagogue that was firebombed in 20190, but Jewish officials are not
ready to declare the incident as anti-Semitic.
The wife and two children of the synagogue’s caretaker, who was not
present at the time of the arson, suffered slight smoke inhalation after the
fire broke out on the fourth floor of the building, where they live. “It would
seem that the fire was set deliberately,” Laurens Dumont, a spokesman for the
city prosecutor, told AFP. Jewish community officials were even more careful
and declared that anti-Semites may not have torched the synagogue because Torah
scrolls and sacred books were not burned.
Of course, the arsonists could
have anticipated that the fire would spread and would destroy the Torah
scrolls, but Jews in the Diaspora often prefer to suppose that they are not
targets of hate crimes and that they are not in danger. Maybe it was not an arson. Maybe it was not
anti-Semitic. We hope it wasn’t, but
don’t be surprised if it was. Maybe the
fact that the synagogue is located in a heavily-populated Muslim area is only
coincidental.
Maybe.
But, just in case you
forgot…there was another incident not too long ago…also in Brussels, this time
in the Holocaust Museum when on n 24 May 2014, a gunman opened fire killing
four people. Three died at the scene; a fourth was taken to hospital and died
on 6 June.The attack is being investigated as terrorism by Belgian authorities.
On 30 May, Mehdi Nemmouche, a 29-year-old
French national of Algerian origin, was arrested at Marseilles in connection
with the shooting. He is believed to have spent over a year in Syria and had links
with radical Islamists and appears to have recorded a video bearing the flag of
the rebel group Islamic State in Iraq and Syria. He was also recognized by some French
journalists that had been liberated and remember this subject as one of their
torturers.
PS.- Nice guy…according to “some” sources, he is
not a Muslim….maybe a lost soul once a Mormon or even perhaps a Jehovah Witness
gone stray who does not follow the gentle teaching of the Koran where they
learn all about peace and love and also to make love and not war….lol...now I shall tell you about Snow White and the Seven Jihadists.....lol
