While Valentine's Day is forbidden in Islamic culture, the prevalence of rape, pedophilia, pornography and other sexual misdeeds contradicts the supposed "morality" of Islam...
An anti-Valentine's Day rally in Pakistan, the country where around 1000 honor killings occur each year.
Valentine's Day is nearly upon us once again, but it is no bed of roses for Muslims who wish to celebrate. The holiday is viewed as a sinful Western invention which goes against the "morality" of Islam.
In Muslim countries like Saudi Arabia, the "religious police" do their best to keep the public in line and will make arrests when necessary. Last year, for example,
five men were arrested and sentenced to 32 years in prison and 4500 lashes for holding a Valentine's Day party with women who were not related to them. (One would hope they would not be related!) The party involved drinking and- gasp!- dancing.
The strict Saudi culture which separates men and women, was highlighted in an
article on Asian Image last month which detailed the account of a British national who temporarily moved to Saudi Arabia for work. The man is apparently Muslim according to the context of the article- (“For my family, Saudi Arabia is the ultimate. It is the height of piety. They couldn’t have been happier that I had gotten a job out there. They were so proud.")
Yet Saudi Arabia was not at all what he expected. Instead of a "deeply religious" atmosphere, the man got the shock of his life when repeatedly propositioned by gay men.
"Almost immediately I was made to feel uncomfortable. Every evening I was approached by various men. It was always men in their 50s.
“They would ask me if I wanted to go swimming with them, or if I wanted to go up to their room for a chat.
“I admit I was so naïve. I actually thought they wanted a ‘chat.’"
According to the man's colleague, this was completely normal, a by-product of keeping women off-limits to men.
“My colleague was really direct. He told me, ‘You can be gay pretty openly here. It’s the weirdest paradox. If you are seen with a woman, it’s blatantly contravening the law. But no one blinks twice if you are having dinner with a man, or going into a hotel with a man."
Sodomy may be punishable by death in Muhammad's birthplace, but these men do not consider themselves to be gay, according to the article, and "in their minds, they are fulfilling a natural human need," the man explained.
“It’s like prison culture, in that they have no choice but to have sex with other men. It’s just a physical act; it’s not about being ‘gay.’"
Something is seriously wrong with a society that is so sexually deprived, men are forced to engage in homosexual activity, even when not naturally inclined to go in that direction. Contact with women is so forbidden that the country is "like prison" and the highly "religious" restrictions are inadvertently producing a behavior viewed so sinful in Islam that it is punishable by death.
The constant harassment from these sexually frustrated men was too much for the British national who was set to stay in Saudi Arabia for one year but left after only six weeks.
This Islamic condemnation of Valentine's Day and gender separation are meant to keep people moral and ensure that they behave, but the real result does not match the intention. Last year I wrote about the hypocrisy in condemning Valentine's Day and calling Western society immoral while more Muslim sex grooming cases are uncovered, along with the Muslim obsession with internet porn, despicable treatment of women in Islam (like the average of 5000 honor killings each year) and other sinful sexual behavior like pedophilia:
There is no love fest on Valentine’s Day in Islam. Muslim clerics around the world declare every year that celebrating the day is forbidden, and the most pious Muslims hold protests. To hear their version, our society is obsessed with sex, and Valentine’s Day is a pornographic holiday.
Meanwhile, due to the increase in Muslim immigration to the West, we have experienced new waves of widespread
sex grooming cases,
taxi driver rapists and other
brutal rapes taking place in areas which were once nice, now inundated with religious Muslim immigrants, who look down on us for our “immorality”.
As Y.K. Cherson writes in “
Why Muslims Rape,” “The truth is that raping the enemy’s women has become a part of Muslim warfare since Muhammad started his conquests.” We, the infidels,
are the enemy, and therefore this “conservative religion” of Islam condones our rape. Yet Valentine’s Day is a pornographic holiday.
Rape is also hard to prove, and often times in Islam, if a rape victim has the “audacity” to report a rape, she is punished instead of the perpetrator because in reporting the rape, she has admitted to committing adultery. Sometimes rape victims can escape a harsher punishment by marrying their attackers, but this is not always an option, (not that it’s an appealing option anyway.) The punishment for adultery can vary from country to country, but flogging is common as well as prison and even execution. However, Valentine’s Day is a pornographic holiday.
The headlines make the holiday sound like one big orgy:
The Jakarta Post:
“Muslim organizations warn of ‘dark world’ of Valentine’s Day”: “There is not much love for Valentine’s Day this year as the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) in Dumai, Riau, and the Education, Youth and Sport Agency in Mataram, West Nusa Tenggara, have warned against celebrating the day of affection.
“‘An MUI judgment states that celebrating Valentine’s Day is against Islam,’ head of the Dumai MUI Lukman Syarif told to Antara on Thursday.
“According to an MUI judgment released in 2011, Valentine’s Day is suspected to imbue the youth with the dark world, wild festivities and lust driven celebrations. The organization’s biggest concern is that Feb. 14 brings with it careless drinking, free sex and drug usage, which violate Islamic norms and rules.
“Meanwhile, the Mataram Education, Youth and Sport Agency released an appeal prohibiting students from any sort of Valentine’s Day celebrations in school.”
CBS News:
“Little love for Valentine’s Day from hardline Muslim groups”: “‘Valentine’s is against Islamic culture. In our view, relationships are sacred. We have arranged marriages in this culture and people don’t get married for love,’ Jamaat-e-Islami spokesman Syed Askari told Reuters. ‘This is imposing Western values and cultures on an Islamic society.’
“Reuters said a small group of people also burned Valentine’s Day cards in front of television cameras in the northern city of Peshawar.”
Metro:
“Valentine’s Day ban imposed by Muslim clerics in Indonesia”: “Tengku Faisal Ali, a spokesman for the Ulema – a group of scholars who set Islamic law – told the Jakarta Globe: ‘It is haram [forbidden] for Muslims to observe Valentine’s Day because it does not accord with Islamic Sharia.’”
It is haram, but rape, pedophilia, forced marriages and polygamy are not.
But it’s not only Indonesia.
“Conservatives in Pakistan tacked up posters urging people to boycott Valentine’s Day on Thursday, [last year], saying it’s a western-inspired event that’s spreading vulgarity in their country…”
Iran as well: “Iranian officials in January banned the import of Valentine’s Day gifts, but people in the capital, Tehran, were still out purchasing such gifts and making plans for meeting boyfriends or girlfriends for romantic dinners.”
Celebrating the holiday is also banned in Saudi Arabia, where the religious police enforce the law forbidding the sale of Valentine’s Day gifts. Though like anywhere else, these things are still sold on the black market, and the more secular people celebrate in private.
“The student wing of Jamaat-e-Islami rallied outside the press club in the northwestern city of Peshawar, chanting slogans against Valentine’s Day, saying it had ‘spread immodesty in the world’.”Immodesty, but again rape, pedophilia, forced marriages and polygamy are all ok?
“Valentine’s Day is increasingly popular among younger Pakistanis, many of whom have taken up the custom of giving cards, chocolates and gifts to their sweethearts to celebrate the occasion.” Buying chocolates and gifts? What an outrage!
“State mufti chief assistant Mat Jais Kamos said the authorities did not want Muslim youth to get caught up in Valentine’s Day.”
Muslim authorities make their position clear every year:
Current Affairs of Pakistan:
“Ulema’s Views About 14th Feb Valentine Day 2014″: “According to Muslim Scholars it’s against Islam to Celebrate 14 February Valentine’s Day. Islam forbids all to meet & talk before marriage. It’s a Government duty to stop these kind of celebrations in the country & show this generation the right path.”
Islam Web:
“The Islamic ruling on Valentine’s Day”: “The clear evidence from the Quran and Sunnah, and this is agreed upon by consensus of the early Muslim generations, confirms that there are only two ‘Eeds (days of celebration) in Islam: ‘Eed al-Fitr (after the fast of Ramadan) and ‘Eed al-Adh-haa(after the standing at ‘Arafah for pilgrimage).
“Every other ‘Eed, whether related to a person, group, incident or any other occasion, is an innovated ‘Eed. It is not permissible for Muslims to participate in it, approve of it, make any show of happiness on its occasion, or assist others to do so, in any way; to do so would be to transgress the bounds of Allaah Who Says what means: ‘…And whoever transgresses the limits of Allaah has certainly wronged himself… ‘ [Quran: 65:1]”
There are some other particularly interesting explanations here:“It is also confirmed from the Prophet that he said:‘Whoever imitates a people is one of them.’ … Also, it is obligatory for every Muslim to adhere strictly to the Quran and Sunnah in every situation and at all times, especially in times of temptation and corruption. It is incumbent that he or she understand, be aware and be cautioned from falling into the deviations of those whom Allaah is angry with (i.e., the Jews) and those who are astray (i.e., the Christians) and other immoral people who have no fear of punishment or hope of reward from Allaah, and who give no recognition at all to Islam.”
So Allah “is angry with the Jews”, the Christians “are astray”, and we’re all immoral. Yet
Fox News reported in 2010, that
Pakistan was the world leader in online searches for pornographic material, while it bans websites that are considered offensive or blasphemous.
“Pakistan is top dog in searches per-person for ‘horse sex’ since 2004, ‘donkey sex’ since 2007, ‘rape pictures’ between 2004 and 2009, ‘rape sex’ since 2004, ‘child sex’ between 2004 and 2007 and since 2009, ‘animal sex’ since 2004 and ‘dog sex’ since 2005, according to Google Trends and Google Insights, features of Google that generate data based on popular search terms.
“The country also is tops — or has been No. 1 — in searches for ‘sex,’ ‘camel sex,’ ‘rape video,’ ‘child sex video’ and some other searches that can’t be printed here.”
Keeping things in perspective, while Muslims scream out of one side of their mouths about Valentine’s Day being taboo and immoral (and even pornographic), their tongues are hanging out of the other side as they look at Internet porn.
Not all Muslims agree however. Pakistani Muslim
Mohammad Jibran Nasir wrote a piece in 2013, condemning the condemnations. According to Nasir, the banning of Valentine’s Day has more to do with the anti-American sentiment than with religion. He writes, “Ironically except for F-16 every single import from America or the West in general is looked at with contempt and hate even if it is a love filled day like Valentine’s day.”
Indeed. Any opportunity the Muslim Ummah has to bash the West is readily seized. Valentine’s Day is no different. Well, let them point their fingers and assume the “moral high ground” while we retrogrades, who believe in the principles of the 10 Commandments, enjoy our special dinners, our flowers and our boxes of chocolates.
