THE FIRST OF THREE NUCLEAR SUBS FOR THE PEOPLE OF ISRAEL

The Israeli navy is about to receive its fourth submarine and the first of three nuclear-capable subs purchased from Germany.  Israel’s first German-made Dolphin II nuclear-capable submarine is on its way to Israel, Israeli Navy Commander Vice Admiral Ram Rothberg said at a naval ceremony in Haifa Tuesday night.  The German weekly “Der Spiegel” reported that the submarines have a nuclear capability and will help Israel defend against an Iranian nuclear threat.

German Chancellor Angela Merkel has denied that the submarines have a nuclear capability but sources have noted that all indications from Germany’s Defense Ministry are that the submarines can carry nuclear weapons.  Dubbed INS Tanin, the Hebrew word for “crocodile,” the sub “can dive deeper and further and for longer and work more powerfully than anything we have previously known,” the naval commander said.

In five years, the scheduled arrival of two more nuclear submarines from Germany will bring to six the number of subs in the fleet.  The boat on its way to Israel can remain under water for extensive maneuvers for weeks without surfacing, far longer than the submarines now in the fleet.  The Tanin officially was launched by Israel two years ago, as seen below, but it remained there for trial runs and the finishing touches before sailing to Israel this week.

A navy commander announced a new addition that the IDF will soon receive- a “Dolphin” submarine, which is considered among the most advanced in the world. "The submarine can operate strengths we did not know before," declared Gen. Ram Rothberg at an officers graduation ceremony.

While the South is still sensitive, and the North begins to heat up, a navy commander announced yesterday (Tuesday) the substantial strengthening to the maritime fighting force – another “Dolphin” will soon reach Israel.  An officers graduation ceremony held at the naval base in Haifa, Gen. Ram Rothberg said that "at this exact moment, it has left Germany, and is on its way to the country, the fourth submarine of the navy and the State of Israel.”  The General also told of the strengthening that the sophisticated submarine will provide the navy: "The submarine will knows how to delve deeper, farther, longer, and can operate strengths we did not know before.” Crocodile Israeli Naval Ships - Dolphin submarines of the Navy - are considered the most advanced submarines in the world, and according to the estimates are the most valuable tool of war in the IDF.  Last February, the Brigadier-General Elli Sharbit, commander of the naval base in Haifa, addressed the purchase of the submarine in question – in addition to two more submarines that will arrive in Israel in the next few years. "The procurement is part of a five-year plan, during which three new Dolphin submarines will be procured by the Navy.  The submarines, which are made in Germany, will increase the Israeli submarine fleet to six underwater vessels," said Gen. Sharbit.

Navy base commander said at the time that a dedicated team of IDF soldiers worked in Germany to develop the project.  Among other things, the new submarines will use a unique technology - AIP - not driven by air.  This means that increasing the ability to stay underwater for weeks – much more than current submarines.  This means operational diving hours, and the Navy's submarine fleet will increase significantly.  In an investigative report published in the German weekly "Der Spiegel" two years ago, it was announced that "Dolphin" submarines that were built in Germany, are in fact portable and hidden nuclear arsenal intended to serve Israel in the event of a nuclear attack from Iran to prevent a nuclear response from land.  German Chancellor Angela Merkel has denied the submarine's nuclear capacity, but according to the published investigation, the German Defense Ministry officials who were involved in the planning admit that they do have such capabilities.  "Nuclear-armed submarines are a signal that the Jewish state can strike back in the event of a nuclear attack against it," the newspaper said.
