Additional Construction Approved in Jerusalem
Despite the international condemnation, the Committee for Building and Construction approved 244 new housing units in the Ramot neighborhood in Jerusalem, which is located over the green line. “The construction will continue with full force,” they said, stressing that the municipality cannot allow discrimination against the Jews.
In the background of the recent tension with the American government over settlement construction, the local Committee for Building and Construction approved the construction of 244 units in the Ramot neighborhood of Jerusalem. “Building in Jerusalem is essential, important and will continue with all its strength and power in order to allow more young people to live in Jerusalem, to build and strengthen the future of the Israeli capital city,” the Jerusalem Municipality explained. It is said that 28 of the units will be new and 216 of the units were approved in the past but were now submitted to be approved again. The decision for additional approvals joins the approvals at the beginning of the week of 500 units in Ramat Shlomo, which is located over the green line. This move led to sharp US criticism....
The Jerusalem Municipality emphasized today that they will not permit a building freeze for Jews: “Discrimination based on religion, race or sex is illegal in any civilized country. The plans discussed today were fully approved several years ago. Two weeks ago, the developers requested renewal plans in favor of issuing building permits.”
