Gaza: Qassam Rockets Found in UN School
The IDF repeatedly asserted that Hamas hid weapons inside schools and civilian population centers. It is now true beyond a doubt. The UN announced that they found rockets inside a school operated by the organization. “This is an incident that endangers civilians, including the organization’s staff and endangers the organization’s entire mission,” UNRWA stated. Rockets were found inside a school. The UN Agency for Palestinian refugees, UNRWA, has announced that they investigated how 20 rockets were hidden inside one of their schools in Gaza. The Agency “condemns the action and claims that it is a flagrant violation of international law.” Last night, during a routine search, UNRWA personnel found 20 rockets hidden in a school in Gaza,” the organization stated. “First of all, we condemn those responsible for hiding weapons in a facility under the responsibility of the organization.” The organization claims that this is the first time that such an incident happened and that it endangers civilians, including the organization’s staff and the mission of the organization in general. Israel has accused Hamas of utilizing civilian facilities such as schools to hide weapons and rockets. In recent days, about 22,000 Gazans who left their homes following IDF orders sought shelter in UN facilities inside Gaza. Aside from the criticism of Hamas, Israel has criticized the UN for years due to its conduct related to the Palestinian issue. Unlike the UN agency that handles other refugees (UNHCR), the Palestinian refugee camps run a separate agency just for them, UNRWA, which only educates them and provides them with food rather than finding a permanent solution to the Palestinian refugee crisis. Israel has argued that UNRWA deliberately leaves Palestinian refugees in camps since 1948 instead of moving them into permanent housing. This leaves them dependant on UNRWA supplies and assistance rather than enabling them to take care of themselves, even though many years have passed since the 1948 war.
