Since the beginning of Operation Protective Edge 32 soldiers and officers died. It has been now cleared for publication that three soldiers from the Paratroopers Brigade were killed this morning (Wednesday) from an explosion. The fallen soldiers are: Deputy Paz Eliyahu, 22, resident of Evron, Sergeant Lee Matt, 19, resident of Eilat, and Sergeant Shahar Dover, 22, resident of Genigar. The incident took place before dawn, near Khan Younis, when Paratroopers forces were canvassing the area in search of tunnels. During one search the force entered a house which apparently has been booby trapped. A strong explosive device was activated and an explosion caused a part of the building to collapse. The three soldiers were killed and seven others were wounded. Following the explosion a fire exchange between IDF troops and Hamas Militants took place. IDF troops evacuated the dead and wounded soldiers into safety under fire. The terrorists were killed and the wounded were evacuated by helicopters to hospitals in Israel. Three of the soldiers were severely wounded.
Sergeant Shahar Dover was born in Kibbutz Genigar. His parents, Orly and Boris, immigrated to Israel from the Soviet Union in 1991 and became members of the Kibbutz. Shahar went to "Emek Yizrael" elementary school in Genigar, and later to the "Emek Ha'maravi" high school in Yifat. He left behind him his parents and a brother, Guy, 24. His funeral will be held tomorrow at 11:00 in Kibbutz Genigar.
Deputy Paz Eliyahu, 22, resident of Evron, died in the fighting in Gaza. Elyahu is the son of Rachel and Ori, and brother to Matan, 19. His funeral will be held tomorrow at 17:00 in the cemetery of Kibbutz Evron.
Sergeant Lee Matt, 19, resident of Eilat, was killed in the same incident. Matt's rank was raised after his death, making him a Staff Sergeant.
