Minutes after the organization
had resumed firing at Israel, a Hamas official stated that although talks
between the Palestinians and Egyptians representatives did not mature into a
long term agreement - negotiations
continued. "Understandings that will allow the extension of the ceasefire
were not achieved in Cairo, however, the truce talks continue," said
spokesman Sami Abu Zuhri. Egyptians, mediating between Israel and the
Palestinians stated that they are calling to both parties to continue to strive
for a break.
According to The Reuters news
agency, two representatives of the terrorist organization Gazan who are taking
part in the conversations that have been held in Egypt for several days, said
that "the negotiation is difficult, and have not achieved the final goals.
Refusal to extend the ceasefire is possible; an official statement on the
subject will come forth from our fellow Gazan members. "Even earlier, at
around 4:00 in the morning, two rockets were fired at the western Negev
settlement. They exploded in an open area with no casualties or damage.
Israeli delegation arrived in
Cairo armed with points of clarification that they needed in order to respond
to the Palestinian demands. Therefore, no agreement has been reached that will
allow the extension of the truce for an additional three days. Further
discussions are currently taking place to cease firing and to renew the truce,
as the purpose of the Israeli delegation's return to Israel was to introduce a
new situation and get new insights into the Palestinians demands.
The talks in Cairo talks were
held with the threat of Hamas' ultimatum overhead: that the fighting would
resume if Israel does not agree in principle to the establishment of a port in
Gaza. Hamas spokesman Abu Ubaida threatened Israel yesterday, saying that
"any Israeli decision to invade Gaza again means the IDF will be
destroyed. We are prepared to restart the campaign and commence a long war of
attrition. The resistance is capable, with Allah's help and its power, to
enforce its terms and conditions on the Zionist enemy. We will turn the enemy
tanks into a game in the Gaza Strip. " Authorities were instructed to open
shelters.
