Comedian Robin Williams passed away at age 63 in his Northern
California home. He was 63. Williams wasn’t Jewish, but he was certainly funny enough to
have been one. Too late for a career change?' he tweeted in February. 'Rabbi
Robin' ‘Honorary Jew’ Robin Williams, 63, found dead. Oscar-winning actor was known for his larger than life roles and
spectacular stage performances, a prolific actor who won over the hearts of
millions with his charming comedic rolls playing memorable and touching
characters such as Mrs Doubtfire, Mork, and the Genie, died Monday in an apparent
suicide. Over the years, Williams had described himself as an ‘honorary Jew’
and in many of his skits channeled a stereotypical elderly Jewish lady, or
alternatively, a New York rabbi. The legendary performer also played several Jewish,
or at least Jewish-inspired, characters, most notably Tommy Wilhelm, in a
cinematic adaptation of Saul Bellow’s Seize the Day.
Recently, Williams posted a picture on Twitter showing him with
a white yarmulke on his head, while on set of the CBS TV show “The Crazy
Ones.” “Too late for a career change?”
he wrote. “Rabbi Robin.”
“You look at the world and see how scary it can be sometimes and
still try to deal with the fear,” he said in 1989. “Comedy can deal with the
fear and still not paralyze you or tell you that it’s going away. You say, OK,
you got certain choices here, you can laugh at them and then once you’ve
laughed at them and you have expunged the demon, now you can deal with them.
That’s what I do when I do my act.”
Thanks Robin...hope you found the elusive peace you were looking for in the arms of an ever forgiving G-d.
This poem/song was written by the greatest-of-them-all...CHARLIE CHAPLIN.....SMILE
Smile though your heart is aching
Smile even though it's breaking.
When there are clouds in the sky
you'll get by.
If you smile with your fear and sorrow
Smile and maybe tomorrow
You'll see the sun come shining through
For you.
Light up your face with gladness,
Hide every trace of sadness.
Although a tear may be ever so near
That's the time you must keep on trying
Smile, what's the use of crying.
You'll find that life is still worthwhile-
If you just smile.
That's the time you must keep on trying
Smile, what's the use of crying.
You'll find that life is still worthwhile-
If you just smile.
Sung by the unforgettable Nat King Cole.... http://youtu.be/UN8oLGBNXpE
